Nature is our great nurturer. I sometimes look at humanity and think we have forgotten that we are part of nature. There are many examples of how we do not treat it respectfully, let alone as our generous host. We are not separate from nature. As the world turns, the ocean breathes, the sun rises, the trees sway, the flowers stand tall, the other beings be, what are we doing?
When I feel ill at ease, ruffled or disturbed by my participation in the world made up of people, I can withdraw to nature and remember my connection. I can fill up on the beautiful energy that the trees give off. I can be cleansed by the salty water of the ocean. I can play in the sand. All my senses can be satisfied with experiences from nature. I can feel instantly blessed as I care to indulge them.
Nature holds the answers to many of our questions. When I am wondering about my actions, I can look to nature to teach me. I can watch animals, plants and the earth and witness silent lessons. Nature reminds us of the miracles available to each and every one of us. Nature teaches us valuable lessons – the strength of water in its non resistance; the benefits of bending when under pressure; the need to shepherd the young; the certain service of the sun that finds balance with the dark; the seasons that take their turn.
I know I am not alone in the deep connection I feel with the world that holds me and sustains me. I know that as we as a whole remember our ties, great healing will occur.
Step lightly – take a step towards reconnecting people with nature.
